WW1 BAYONET, BRITISH 1876 TYPE REWORKED FOR 303,EGYPTIAN EXP.FORCES/PALESTINE!

Egypt was a British Protectorate when WW1 broke out, and units of the Egyptian Army were mobilized in 1916 as the Egyptian Expeditionary Force to serve under British officers against the Ottoman Empire. They were armed with a variety of obsolete weapons to include the .303 Martini-Enfield. The bayonet offered here was originally made as the British long pattern 1876 for the .577/450 Martini-Henry rifle and was modified by the Egyptian Arsenal around 1903-08 to fit the .303 Martini-Enfield rifle. The socket has been bushed and the markings altered. Faint traces of the original British markings visible along with the clear Egyptian arsenal markings as seen in the photos. Clean blade with scattered greying, socket and locking ring finish is a light grey/brown patina. Locking ring functions smoothly. Still some traces of old preservative in the socket that I didn’t clean out. Blade measures 21 ½ inches, overall length is 25 inches.
