    Description

OLD COLLECTION of 7 METAL WEAPONS (PLUS 2 MANILAS & a BUNCH of KISSI PENNIES) ALL USED as MONEY in AFRICA - PRE WORLD WAR I
The Colonial powers in Africa (Belgium, England,  France, Germany, Italy, Portugal & Spain) were happ
y that the locals used trade items, instead of real money. Until independence
, trade-currency was used in several metallic forms (a
s payment to the bride's parents, as compensation for their loss of her work services), by most of this Central African Territory - tribes such as; the Bieeng, Bokila, Bulaang, Bushoong, Idiing, Ilebo, Kaam, Kayuweeng, Kel, Maluk, Ngeende, Ngongo, Ngoombe, Pyaang and Shoowa, all pretty well isolated from slave traders, but not from the wicked King Leopold of Belgium.
Here is a beautiful Museum collection of  several quality genuine pieces (each measuring approx 10-15" or 25-38 cms., except for the 2 manila bracelet monies and the group of Kissi Pennies - all wire mounted to a wooden board with some scuffs in the upper left as shown (measures 36" wide x 24" high), ready to hang.
